Data Reification without Explicit Abstraction Functions
نویسنده
چکیده
Data rei cation normally involves the explicit positing of an abstraction function with certain properties. However, the condition for one de nition to reify another only requires that a function with such properties should exist. This suggests that it may be possible to carry through a data rei cation without giving an explicit de nition of the abstraction function at all. This paper explores this possibility and compares it with the more conventional approach.

Model and Information Abstraction for Description-Driven Systems
A crucial factor in the creation of adaptable systems dealing with changing requirements is the suitability of the underlying technology in allowing the evolution of the system. A reflective system utilizes an open architecture where implicit system aspects are reified to become explicit first-class (meta-data) objects. These implicit system aspects are often fundamental structures which are in...
متن کاملMeta-data Objects as the Basis for System Evolution
One of the main factors driving object-oriented software development in the Web-age is the need for systems to evolve as user requirements change. A crucial factor in the creation of adaptable systems dealing with changing requirements is the suitability of the underlying technology in allowing the evolution of the system. متن کاملSeeking a Computational Brain
This paper compares the various theories of mental processing, and suggests that some form ofcomputationalism drives our thought processes. Since we know little of the actual neurophysiology behind the workings of the mind, we have to hypothesize the likely structures based on higherlevel functions. Propositional representation, word concept localization, the abstraction of general concepts, an...
متن کامل„Power and the reification of “religion” in prisons‟
Introduction There is a sense in which all intellectual work on religion has a reifying effect. Scholars in the humanities and social sciences necessarily construct religions as particular kinds of object. That is, they take some human emotions, ideas, artefacts and activities and frame them as things called „religions‟. Accounts of these religions provide the basis for inferring something call...
متن کاملInverse Linking via Function Composition
The phenomenon of Inverse Linking has proven challenging for theories of the syntax-semantics interface; a noun phrase within another behaves with respect to binding as though it were structurally independent. In this paper I show that, using an LF-movement style approach to the syntax-semantics interface, we can derive all and only the appropriate meanings for such constructions using no seman...
